Lipo-lymphedema sucks

Yep it sucks! There is not sugar coating it and it makes being a working mom harder than it already is.

I always knew my legs and hips were different. No matter how much weight I tried to lose they always stayed big. Then I got pregnant and my legs ballooned in size. No matter what I did they didn’t get better. Finally my doc sent me to a lymphedema specialist. I walked in thinking “Yep they are just going to tell me I’m fat and need to work harder to lose weight” I was surprised as all hell when they said I was a classic example of lipedema.

With my new diagnosis, a treatment plan, and a realization that it wasn’t all my fault I set out to learn as much as I could. I scoured Pinterest, Facebook, and every nook and cranny of the internet. Turns out not much is known, not much works for treatment, and there is no cure. Well shit…

That was a couple of years ago since then I have developed secondary lymphedema to my lipedema, which has it’s own lovely title of lipo-lymphedema. I’m trying to work at losing any extra weight I can. I work to deal with the symptoms. I work full time and I have a two year old. Honestly I’m freaking exhausted. Add in the fatigue the disease brings with it, oh and the pain must forget that 🙂 and some days I feel like, and walk like, a zombie.

So that is my venting session cause I’m having a bad leg day.

  1. Oh, I can relate so much! Since last Octobre I’m like “Oh, that’s what’s wrong with my legs, finally everything makes sense!” – “Yeah, compression really helps, I’m glad it exists” and “Do I really have to wear it every day for the rest of my life…?”. It’s a roller coaster…

    1. It is a rollercoaster of good days, bad days, and what the hell days. I’m sorry you have to go through it. It does in fact suck, but not every day and not all the time.
      Good luck in your journey!
